Assistant Performance Improvement Manager (f/m/d) – Eastern Europe

The Assistant Performance Improvement Manager for Eastern Europe will be one of the leaders of the CI program and has the goal of achieving a sustainable “best in class” margin performance in aggregates.
The Assistant PI Manager works with Country leadership, CCA leadership, and staff at our quarries to identify margin improvement opportunities in our aggregate operations. The Assistant PI Manager supports line management with general management skills to deliver best in class performance and realise long-term sustainable savings.

The Assistant PI Manager will assist in enhancing the technical competence and operational excellence of our organization, in relation to QC and production, sales/production planning, and performance management, and lead the Aggregates Academy activities in Eastern Europe.

Your next challenge

  • Develop a performance culture in the Aggregates business.
  • Support the countries management in achieving RCO and CI targets.
  • Plan, communicate and lead quarry optimization visits, with participation by operations, QC, Commercial and logistics teams.
  • Co-ordinate communication and CI initiatives with country managers.
  • Support businesses in implementation of maintenance strategies.
  • Promote continuous “bottom-up” initiatives by the quarries management and staff.
  • Implementation of digital tools to improve busiess performance.
  • The Assistant PI Manager will become proficient in the technical aspects of QC and production processes, as well as the general management aspects of the business.
  • They will follow up on improvement opportunities and provide assistance to local management to realise improvement goals.
  • The Assistant PI Manager will become a conduit for transferring best practices across the organization, and deliver training modules in conjunction with the Heidelberg Materials Aggregate Academy.
This high profile position will require travel within Poland, Czech and Romania and a commitment to work with multiple levels of aggregates management.


Your profile

  • Degree, preferably in mechanical engineering or extraction / mining
  • At least 5 years’ experience of aggregates management in an high level operational role including at least 3 years in a direct quarry management role.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills and the strong desire to work alongside and support our line management with all aspects of PI.
  • Ability to understand the technical and financial aspects of the business and how they relate to each other, including investment evaluations.
  • Experience and proven track record in optimizing processes in quarrying, including sales, QC and operations. Ability to diagnose and optimize production steps for blasting, loading & hauling, crushing & screening, loadout, maintenance, extraction and site management. Ability to relate above processes to site geology and commercial markets.
  • Desire to engage in change management.
  • Determination to lead our Eastern European businesses to a best in class performance.
  • Ability to think outside the box and to identify best practices and transfer this knowledge across the organization.
  • Knowledge of Aggflow, AggQC and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of how production processes interact with geology, markets and applications
  • Project management experience
  • People management skills including coaching and motivation
  • Strong problem solving skills, specifically; Pragmatic / Hands on and ability to ‘think outside the box’
  • Excellent drive, vision and personal energy
  • Fluent in English, Polish or Czech
  • Understanding of finance, especially investment evaluations
  • Experience in preparation of reports and presentations
  • Experience in managing and dealing with people in a multicultural environment
  • Entrepreneurial thinking
  • Willingness to travel on a frequent basis
