Head of Engineering and Project Management (f/m/d)

The Head of Engineering and Project Management (f/m/d) for our Global Competence Center Aggregates (CCA) leads and coordinates our global approach to engineering and project management and supports and collaborates our Area Engineering and Project Management Heads. This is strongly focused to achieve Best Value Design for capex projects, performance improvement for existing operations, and support for Heidelberg Materials digital and sustainability objectives.



Your next challenge

  • Build and sustain strong relationships and contacts with the Business and Area CCA – this is a significant CCA value driver for the business
  • Owner of Project Management Guidelines and documents, Design Criteria (DC), Capex and Engineering support tools, checklists, and associated training. The aim to ensure specialist experience and lessons learned are retained and transferable in an effective way to projects, people and in engineering solutions
  • Continually develop and evolve the guidance, training, tools and technology to improve the quality of outcomes in engineering design, project management and operational performance
  • Provide specialist support of CAPEX globally, senior peer review of significant construction and M&A projects.
  • Direct engineering support as needed including design, technical problem solving, RCA’s, and solutions for aggregates and recycling businesses
  • Facilitate aggregates processing and engineering knowledge sharing of good ideas, practice, lessons learned, RCA, and project reviews in various forums (eg: SIG, Yammer, Unite)
  • Advance sharing, support and knowledge management across other competence centers, group departments including Digital, Purchasing, Health & Safety, ESG and external groups and suppliers
  • Maintain and continue development of a strong internal specialist network and facilitate input from CCA and other business resources to significant CAPEX projects


Your profile

Job Requirements
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills - verbal, written and presentation
  • Strong ability to take detailed or complex engineering, science techniques or processes and develop simple and effective tools and training material suitable for multiple management groups
  • Experience in operations, project management and knowledge management
  • Good technical knowledge regarding engineering practices and aggregates processing
  • Good organizational and project management skills
  • Strong ability to build relationships and coordinate diverse interests at all levels internationally
  • Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Flexibility for significant travel, worldwide
Education and Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree of Engineering (typically Mechanical, Civil or Mining) and directly applicable work experience
  • Extensive experience in the aggregates business focused on credibility as an Aggregates Professional
  • Aggregate plant design experience across hardrock, limestone and sand and gravel
  • Experience in knowledge management a strong plus
