Nordskoven Bridge (Denmark)
The 500 m long and 12 m high Nordskoven bridge in Silkeborg, Denmark, is a double highway bridge through the forested landscape in the middle of the Jutland peninsula.
The bridge of cast concrete is environmentally integrated, with a wide passage under the bridge leaving room for animal and human movement through the forest, thereby reducing the highway barrier effect.
HeidelbergCement Denmark delivered 10,000 m3 of high-strength concrete for the project. The bridge is carried by 80 round pillars, mimicking the trunks of the surrounding trees. Each pillar contains 10-12 m3 of concrete, depending of the height of the pillar.
