Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge
386,469 cubic metres of concrete for world’s longest sea crossing
The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB) is both the longest sea crossing and the longest fixed link on earth. It comprises a series of bridges and tunnels that connect Hong Kong, Macau, and Zhuhai in the Pearl River Delta in China.
The overall length is about 55 km (34 mi), with the main section including a 29.6 km dual three-lane carriageway in the form of a bridge-cum-tunnel structure and two man-made islands. The bridge reduces the transit time from Hong Kong to Zhuhai from several hours to around 30 minutes. Heidelberg Materials' subsidiary Alliance Hong Kong supplied building materials for the construction of the bridge. In total, we supplied 386,469 cubic metres of concrete.
