Indocement to start big waste conversion project

Indocement, the Indonesian subsidiary of HeidelbergCement, and the city of Jakarta have signed a contract for waste conversion in the next 25 years: the Nambo project.

The mega city of Jakarta with its about 30 million inhabitants generates huge amounts of waste every day. The aim of the project is to convert 1,500 tonnes of waste per day into alternative fuels, which will then be used in Indocement’s kilns instead of coal.

This will save significant C02 emissions and avoid the landfilling of 14 million tonnes of waste. The project will start early 2020.
