26 plants in Germany certified by Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC)
Heidelberger Beton Kurpfalz GmbH & Co. KG was the first ready-mixed concrete producer in Germany that received the “Silver” CSC-certification for responsibly sourced concrete in January 2018. The certification was awarded for producing concrete in an ecologically, socially and economically responsible way. Since then, seven more concrete plants of Heidelberger Beton received CSC-certification.
In April 2018, also all cement plants of HeidelbergCement in Germany received “Silver" certification – the highest category for suppliers. The cement plant in Leimen was awarded the 100th CSC certificate worldwide. Due to this excellent CSC-certification of the German cement plants, fifteen of Heidelberger Beton’s concrete plants in Germany received “Gold” certification.
Getting CSC-certified is important for several reasons:
- The international certification covers the whole supply chain. Customers can be sure that the products they buy are produced in an environmentally, socially and economically responsible way.
- The certification provides an excellent opportunity to positively affect the public perception of concrete and get into a dialogue about sustainability with customers.
- CSC-certification is a worldwide standard that increasingly gains recognition in Green Building Labels. For example: The DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council) recognises the “Silver” and “Gold” CSC-certificates in the 2018 version of its responsible sourcing credit for sustainable construction.
The construction of HeidelbergCement’s new headquarters, designed for up to 1,000 employees, provides an excellent opportunity to deliver CSC-certified concrete into a major construction project.
