New Cairo City: Al Rehab and Madinaty settlements (Egypt)
Sustainable and modern city planning
Al Rehab is the first city built by the private sector in Egypt having comprehensive services to cater for all needs of its residents. It is set on an area of 10 million m² in New Cairo to accommodate 200,000 inhabitants. The city will have ten phases upon its completion.
Each phase is a complete district offering two kinds of housing arrangements: villas and apartments. All facilities are interconnected throughout the ten different phases to include educational, medical, commercial, sports club, recreational and maintenance facilities. Madinaty, still under construction, is a city built on 34 million m² and designed to provide a modern life for 600,000 inhabitants. All the services needed are provided throughout the city. The compounds are a fully fledged community, which create a comprehensive integrated residential scheme within the New Cairo plan.
New Cairo includes the First, Third and Fifth settlements, the American University in Cairo's new campus, the German University in Cairo, the British University in Egypt and French Schools. Since it is not an industrial area, its elevated plane (which rises 60 meters over the Muqatam Heights) is characterized by its unpolluted air and all-year round moderate climate. To preserve that, New Cairo is surrounded by a wide green belt of lush greenery.
Al Rehab was developed and built by the largest Real Estate developer in Egypt, Talaat Moustafa Group Holding. Madinaty's well-designed and detailed master plan was the result of a collaborative effort between three top U.S. design firms: HHCP, SWA, and Sasaki. The outcome was a modern city whose design focuses on providing all present and future requirements of its inhabitants and visitors.
Madinaty will include not only villas and apartment buildings, but also vast green areas, golf courses, hospitals, business centers, hotels, educational institutions, sports and social clubs, household services, and entertainment facilities which meet the day-to-day needs of its inhabitants. The city, acting as a modern extension to New Cairo, will also have innovative and unique services on its fringes which will cater to the needs of nearby towns and even to the needs of the inhabitants of Greater Cairo. These services will include: water sports areas, shopping centers, and varied educational institutions.
Madinaty is situated at Cairo 33 kilometers on the Cairo-Suez road. The city is approximately a 10-minute drive from Heliopolis and 20 minutes from downtown Cairo. It is also located near the second ring road.
